The York County Office of Economic Development and the York Economic Development Authority awarded Spain Properties with the 2017 William Rogers “Poor Potter” Award for significant investment in the county. Owner Steve Spain accepted the award.
Spain’s latest building has 18,000 square feet of commercial flex space, with 15,000 square feet already leased to new county businesses, according to a news release. The company has also built several other flex and office spaces totaling more than 60,000 square feet throughout the county.
This type of space, which was previously hard to find, has helped several existing businesses grow and has attracted many new businesses to the county, York said.
The award is named after William Rogers who is known as the “Poor Potter” of Yorktown. In the early 1700’s, Rogers was an entrepreneur who established a producing pottery, which operated in violation of British law, that crafted 23 types of earthenware and stoneware products.
